PCU Organizes AICTE Approved Faculty Development Program on Universal Human Values
Pimpri Chinchwad University (PCU), Pune, successfully conducted a three day AICTE approved Introductory Faculty Development Program (FDP) on Universal Human Values (UHV), bringing together faculty members to explore the principles of value based education, self awareness, ethical living, and holistic human development in alignment with the vision of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The inaugural ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Santosh S. Sonavane, Vice Chancellor, PCU; Dr. Anil S. Maheshwari, Registrar, PCU; and Dr. Anju Bala, Director Student Development & Welfare (SDW), PCU. The distinguished resource team included Dr. Yashvant Patil, Resource Person NCC IP, AICTE; Dr. Anita Santaji Mane, Co Facilitator and Regional Coordinator, Western Region, AICTE; and Dr. Pandurang Baban Bhise, Observer, AICTE.
The event commenced with Saraswati Pujan and the felicitation of the resource persons. Welcoming the participants, Dr. Anju Bala emphasized the importance of value-based education and ethical decision-making in higher education. She highlighted the role of educators in nurturing responsible citizens and fostering harmony, gratitude, and social responsibility among students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Anita Mane explained the significance of AICTE Universal Human Values initiative and its relevance in shaping future generations. She stressed the importance of cultivating awareness, discipline, and values among students and educators alike, while encouraging participants to actively engage in the process of self exploration throughout the programme.
Dr. Yashvant Patil shared valuable insights on the transformative impact of Universal Human Values in academic institutions. He encouraged greater collaboration among institutions and emphasized the importance of creating learning environments that promote holistic growth, mutual respect, and responsible citizenship.
In his keynote address, Dr. Santosh S. Sonavane highlighted the broader purpose of education beyond academic achievement. He spoke about the need for educators to serve as role models who inspire students through ethics, discipline, and character. Referring to the multidisciplinary and holistic vision of NEP 2020, he encouraged faculty members to contribute towards personality development, societal well being, and meaningful learning outcomes.
The three day FDP featured interactive sessions, reflective discussions, assignments, and experiential learning activities centered on themes such as self awareness, harmony in relationships, mutual happiness, prosperity, and holistic living. Faculty members explored the concept of right understanding and right feelings, while reflecting on their personal and professional responsibilities as educators.
The programme received 116 registrations and witnessed active participation from more than 85 faculty members across the university. Participants appreciated the practical and introspective nature of the sessions and shared positive reflections on the personal and professional insights gained during the FDP.
The concluding session highlighted the importance of integrating Universal Human Values into teaching-learning practices, institutional culture, and everyday life. Participants expressed their commitment to fostering a value oriented academic environment and contributing to the holistic development of students.
Through initiatives such as the Universal Human Values FDP, Pimpri Chinchwad University continues to strengthen its commitment to creating an educational ecosystem that combines academic excellence, ethical leadership, human values, and holistic development, preparing students to become responsible and compassionate global citizens.
